About Us

AWSIM is a professional medical association for clinicians, researchers, and educators who believe that weight-inclusive care is better care. We exist to build the evidence base, support the clinicians, and shape the policies that make dignified, effective healthcare available to every patient regardless of body size.

Mission, Vision, and Principles

Everything AWSIM does flows from our commitment to evidence-based medicine, to patient dignity, and to a healthcare system that does not treat body size as a diagnosis.

Staff and Board

AWSIM is guided by a volunteer leadership team of physicians, researchers, and educators who are actively practicing and advancing weight-inclusive medicine. They bring expertise from across clinical specialties, academic medicine, and health policy.

Our Story and Founding Members

AWSIM was born from a recognition that weight-inclusive medicine had the science, the ethics, and the clinicians, but lacked a professional home. A small group of committed individuals changed that. Learn how our organization came to be and meet the founding members who built it from the ground up.

Students at AWSIM: An Eye to the Future

Students are helping shape the future of weight-inclusive medicine. Through AWSIM’s collaboration with Medical Students for Size Inclusivity (MSSI), students have access to community, mentorship, educational resources, and opportunities to contribute to advocacy, medical education, and research. Explore student opportunities and learn which membership category best fits your training and professional role. All health professions students are welcome and encouraged to join AWSIM and MSSI upon registration.

Annual Report

AWSIM is committed to transparency about how the organization operates, where its resources come from and go, and what it has accomplished. Download our most recent annual report to see the work in full.
