AWSIM is the first professional medical association dedicated to weight-inclusive, evidence-based care. Join the clinicians, researchers, educators, and students building the field and building each other up.
Until AWSIM, clinicians practicing weight-inclusive care had no formal medical community to belong to, no place to consult on complex cases, no shared clinical guidelines, no peer network, no CME that reflected their values. AWSIM was founded by clinicians who decided the only way forward was to build it themselves. We are a volunteer-powered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We do not accept funding from pharmaceutical or weight-loss companies.
Members-only clinical materials that challenge stigma-driven norms.
Bring your hardest cases to people who get it.
Find colleagues practicing the way you do.
Reduced rates on the Annual Scientific Assembly and more.
Weight-inclusive care happens across disciplines. Find the category that matches your role, then see the rights and community that come with it.
You’ve been practicing this way, often without colleagues who understood it. As a regular member, you join a community of physicians doing the same work, with CME-accredited webinars and a growing video library covering both fundamentals and advanced topics in weight-inclusive care. You’ll also have full voting rights and be eligible to serve on committees or the board, if and when you want a bigger hand in shaping the field.
Founding ($500). Practicing MD/DO ($250/yr) . Fellows and residents (Free) . MD/DO Students (Free)
As an associate member, you’re not joining a separate association carved out for APPs, you’re a full member of AWSIM, the physician-led professional home for weight-inclusive medicine, working alongside the physicians driving this field forward. You’ll have access to educational programming on both foundational and advanced topics, and full voting rights at the Annual General Meeting, with eligibility to serve on committees or leadership.
NP, PA, ND, advanced degree nurses ($150/yr) Students (free)
As an affiliate member, you join AWSIM alongside the physicians, researchers, and advanced practitioners building this field, not a separate group adjacent to it. Allied health professionals, researchers, administrators, and policymakers all have a real seat at the table here, with access to shared educational programming and a direct line to committee work that shapes AWSIM’s direction.
RN, RD, OT, PT, LCSW, CRNA, therapists, researchers, administrators, policy makers ($100/yr) Graduate students in these disciplines (free)
You do not have to wait until graduation to find your professional community. AWSIM connects students with clinicians, educators, researchers, and advocates advancing evidence-based, weight-inclusive care. Learn across disciplines, access educational opportunities and resources, and begin building relationships that can support your training and future practice.

To me, AWSIM represents what is best about people in medicine: fighting not only to demand evidence-based medicine for all, not only for the patients we care for and those we are yet to meet, but for ourselves as thinking and feeling human beings. We are all in this together.

Educating clinicians and learners on weight-inclusive medicine often feels like pioneering without a map. Being an AWSIM member has reassured and inspired me, proving we aren’t alone in this vital movement to bring weight inclusion to the forefront of healthcare.

I joined AWSIM and felt like I had finally found my professional home. It has always been difficult to find professional spaces where I don’t first have to explain, defend, or speak up about the realities of weight stigma before I can fully participate. In AWSIM, there is a shared understanding that allows me to show up as both a clinician and a person without having to translate that part of my experience first. There is something incredibly meaningful—and honestly relieving—about being in a professional community that already gets it.

AWSIM offers a supportive space where I don’t have to defend my weight-neutral position, but can focus my energy on moving forward on the path to being a better clinician.
Weight-inclusive medicine is growing — in clinical practice, in research, in public conversation. AWSIM exists to make sure that growth is grounded in evidence, equity, and professional community. Your membership makes that possible.
